Cross it off the list!
This week, the activity I chose to do was: Make a Craft for Baby's Room.
It was super easy, fun and it turned out, I think, really cute.
Baby Rosalie's room is Rose and Flower Fairy themed. I've always loved Flower Fairies and I always said that if I ever had a girl, I would have them in her nursery. I found some vintage Flower Fairy prints, but I didn't have any frames for them yet. This was the perfect craft opportunity!
I started by visiting my local DI (thrift store) and purchased a few old frames that I could paint over. They were only $1 each! I also stocked up on sand paper, acrylic paints and paint brushes for the paint job and scrapbook paper to customize the matting.
After sanding and priming each frame, it took about 3 coats of paint to reach my desired color - bright magenta. I let them dry while I prepped the matting.
I made the matting out of solid colored, textured scrapbook paper. First, I cut the paper into 4 strips. I took 2 strips end to end (in an L shape) and cut diagonally through the corners to create the edge. Like this!
The next step was to put the matting on. I opted to put the matting behind the picture, rather than of on top of it. First, I glued the edges of the picture to the frame backing, then I added the top and bottom pieces of the matting.
For the sides I decided to do a mosaic type design with the textures in the paper. I cut triangle pieces from the scrapbook paper and glued them one by one in a pattern, every other piece flat then textured.
See you next week!
